A 19-year-old man is dead following a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 28 Friday (Aug. 6) night, south of Peterborough.
At about 10:40 p.m. a Peterborough Police Service officer was conducting speed enforcement on Highway 28 when they observed a south-bound vehicle speeding past, according to preliminary information released by the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) who have been brought in to investigate the crash. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but it sped away out of sight. A short time later, the SIU says the officer came upon a multi-vehicle crash involving the motorist he had been trying to stop. The SIU reports there were several injuries to occupants of the vehicles and one man was pronounced dead at the scene.
As of Saturday morning, Highway 28, between Syer Line and Larmer Line, was still closed while three SIU investigators and two forensic investigators continue to examine the scene. Peterborough Police announced that the road has been reopened to traffic shortly before 2 p.m.
Anyone with information about the investigation is asked to contact 1-800-787-8529. Anyone with video related to the incident is encouraged to upload it through the SIU website.
