
SAINTE-MARIE-DE-BEAUCE, Que. — Quebec provincial police say they have arrested a suspect after an officer was shot and wounded Wednesday during a traffic stop.
Police made the announcement in a news release that included few details about the arrest, and they are scheduled to hold a news conference on the case today.
The arrest followed a significant police operation that included a helicopter, service dogs and appeals for help from the public.
Police say the officer was shot after she stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation in Ste-Marie, Que., south of Quebec City.
They say the suspect fled in their vehicle.
The officer was seriously injured and was taken to hospital but is expected to survive.
