The incident began on Sunday night around 10:05 p.m. when patrol officers responded to a report of a possibly impaired driver.

The adult male suspect had just left a business in the 2600 block Lauzon Parkway behind the wheel of a gold-coloured Chevy Equinox.

Five minutes after receiving the call, a patrol officer noticed the vehicle in question heading south on Lauzon Parkway — moving erratically on the roadway at high speeds.

Windsor police moved to stop the Chevy Equinox at the intersection of Lauzon Parkway and Quality Way, but the vehicle evaded them and fled.

Officers pursued and successfully stopped the vehicle in the 7000 block of Enterprise Way.

Multiple Windsor police vehicles were struck by the Chevy Equinox during the course of the incident. Police said the collisions were intentional on the part of the suspect driver.

Windsor police remind the public that impaired driving remains a major public issue, as it is “the leading criminal cause of death injury in Canada.”

“Impaired drivers present a significant risk to the safety of all road users,” police stated.

If you wish to report a vehicle that you suspect has an impaired driver, call 911.
