A report of a man drinking alcohol in a vehicle brought police to the 300 block of John Street early Friday.

Police found the automobile with an open beer bottle in a front cup holder, a release says. No one was in the vehicle. Police left the area and later saw the vehicle being driven in a parking lot on John Street. The automobile was stopped. White powder, believed to be a controlled substance, was seen on the middle console. Officers spoke with the male driver and developed grounds to believe his ability to drive was impaired.
Tiago Archambault-Augusto, 22, was charged with impaired driving-alcohol and drugs, having a blood/alcohol level of more than 80 milligrams and possession of a controlled substance.
His court date is Oct. 18.
