A traffic stop Thursday morning outside Herbert, along the TransCanada Highway, resulted in three people facing a number of criminal charges.
The RCMP reported the vehicle had been pulled over by the Roving Traffic Unit. Officers spotted a small quantity of meth in plain view during the stop. This resulted in the start of an investigation.
The vehicle was searched, and RCMP said officers found and seized roughly 100 identity, credit and debit cards – none of which belonged to the occupants of the vehicle. Also found during the search were bear spray and the equipment needed to make fraudulent credit cards.
A number of suspected drugs were also found and seized, and have been sent off to be analyzed as part of the investigation.
Officers then determined the VIN on the vehicle had been tampered with, and it turned out the vehicle had been reported as stolen in Regina.
The three suspected were all arrested, and are facing a number of charges.
The three suspects, 38-year-old Joel Gavina of Calgary, 21-year-old Shaylynn McKay-Koochicum of Regina and 31-year-old Aldrin Pascua of Regina, are all charged with 18 counts of possession of stolen credit cards, seven counts of possession of identity documents, four counts of possession under the CDSA, one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, one count of carrying a concealed weapon, one count of altering a VIN, one count of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and one count of possession of instruments to forge or falsify credit cards.
Pascua was also charged with two counts of breach of probation and two counts of failing to comply with release orders.
The three suspects have been remanded into custody, and are scheduled to appear in court in Swift Current on Monday.
