Former Montreal Canadiens defenceman P.K. Subban tweeted his support for Mark Connors on Thursday after the Black teen reported being racially abused during a recent hockey tournament in Charlottetown.
Connors, who plays for the Halifax Hawks, said he was repeatedly called the N-word at the tournament. Additionally, he said players from a P.E.I. team told him he shouldn’t be playing “a white man’s sport.”
The CBC reports the Hawks are boycotting tournaments in P.E.I. until the issue is addressed.
“When does it stop,” Subban asked on Twitter . “Believe it or not these stories are sent to me everyday. This is happening everyday in our game. EVERYDAY!”
